About Me
Background Information
My name is Karey Johnson and I am currently a PHP Programmer for Kelby Media Group and have been since February 2009. I am a graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Architecture. Before I worked with Kelby Media Group, I was a Web Content Coordinator for WCI Communities. My duties at KMG are a little more complex than that of my WCI position, where I did very little PHP coding and my daily tasks dealt with more front-end based projects and email campaigns. At KMG, I am more hands-on with the back-end file systems and database infrastructure. I also develop a number of front-end applications that deliver RSS/Podcast feed, AJAX, and SWF player functionalities to a number of our web sites.
I am also an A-Tier PHP programmer for Heritage Web Solutions, who I work for as a freelancer in my spare time. My task consist of turn-key and pre-built software installation, PHP Fox functionality modifications, custom database projects, etc. Finally, I work with Florida State University to develop client web sites. I work directly with the Information Lab as a contractor in my additional spare time.
Future Ambitions
I hope to learn more programming languages as I go along in my career while still learning more about the PHP language. My next language will most definitely be Microsoft ASP.Net on a Windows Server. I love PHP and I can do everything I need to do using it but it's always better to be as versatile as possible in today's market.
Executive Summary
My name is Karey Johnson and I am currently a Web Content Coordinator for WCI Communities, Inc. and have been since July 2007. I am also a graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Architecture.
While attending Florida State University I was the lead senior intern for the Information Lab and was a developer and designer for a number of sites that were developed and maintained by FSU. The sites are as follows:
- Tallahassee Museum
- Center for the Advancements of Human Rights
- S.T.A.R.S. Alliance
- Governor’s Mansion
Working as a senior intern in the Information Lab at FSU has helped me develop and improve my skills as a web developer while giving me the invaluable experience it takes to properly hone my talents. The position taught me the importance of mastering my non-technical skills with the same ferocity in which I pursue improving my technical skills, because web design is far more than just understanding code and computers its understanding people and understanding their need for what you do.
Mission/Vision Statement
My mission is to continue to improve in all facets of my profession and to help my current employer to reach and surpass the goals they set forth for both the company and myself.
My vision is to continue to help push the web and its technologies to the limit. To develop sites that are smarter, faster, and easier to use and navigate by even the most inexperienced Internet user. In a nutshell, my vision is to combine aesthetically pleasing front-end design with cutting-edge, efficient coding practices to help maximize the users online experience.
Critical Success Factors
I am a firm believer that in order to accomplish your goals and dreams in life you CAN NOT SIMPLY chase them. You only reach your goals through prayer, hard work, and putting in the time required to achieve your goals. Once you have done those three things, then and only then will all the rewards and benefits that accompany reaching your goals and making your dreams a reality be bestowed upon you.
